Sr. CFD Engineer, Fixed-Wing
Archer is seeking a Senior Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer specializing in fixed-wing aerodynamics to join our team in San Jose, California. As a leading aerospace company, Archer is dedicated to advancing sustainable air mobility through the development of all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for urban environments.
In this role, you will perform aerodynamic design and simulations of Archer's eVTOL aircraft using CFD tools. Your responsibilities will include running aerodynamic shape optimizations for various vehicle components, developing and maintaining high-fidelity models, and lofting high-quality surfaces for outer mold line (OML) definitions. Additionally, you will correlate and validate CFD simulation results with lower-fidelity simulations, flight test data, and wind tunnel experiments, supporting the vehicle's aerodynamic design from conceptual stages through to certification.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS, MS, or PhD in Aeronautics Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience for BS holders, 3 years for MS holders, or 2 years for PhD holders in modeling rotorcraft, tiltrotor, or eVTOL aerodynamics using CFD. A strong understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, and CFD is essential. Proficiency in NASA Overflow CFD software, 3D CAD modeling (preferably NX), Python programming, and experience with high-performance computing are also required. Experience with NASA Fun3D CFD software, HELIOS computational framework, and acoustic analysis is considered a plus.
Archer offers a competitive compensation package, with a targeted base pay between $127,000 and $174,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development.
Joining Archer means becoming part of a diverse and inclusive team committed to revolutionizing urban air mobility. We value innovation, collaboration, and the pursuit of excellence, providing employees with opportunities for growth and the chance to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in sustainable aviation.
