Sr. Technical Specialist, Polymer Technology
Lucid Motors is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist in Polymer Technology to lead and manage all polymer-related aspects from concept phase to product launch. This role involves leading the Polymer Technology Team, an internal group of specialists responsible for material vetting, design optimization, testing, and process improvements. The team collaborates closely with design engineers and suppliers throughout the product development process to optimize part function, efficiency, and cost. Additionally, the team works with cross-functional teams such as supply chain, industrialization, quality, studio, and legal to oversee material attributes.
Key responsibilities include owning all polymer-related aspects from concept to launch across programs, leading the Polymer Technology Team in material selection and design optimization, providing expert input for specialized subject matter, applying knowledge of polymer materials and processing for guidance and decision-making, driving innovation by converting technology needs into scalable prototypes, and standardizing materials, tooling, and processes across programs.
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in polymer engineering, material science, or a related field, with over 10 years of experience supporting multiple vehicle systems in materials, engineering design, tooling, process, and testing. At least 5 years of responsibility leading material selection and shaping material/design/tooling strategy are required. Experience in automotive development from concept to launch, deep knowledge of polymer materials (thermoplastics, elastomers, thermosets, coatings, composites) and their automotive use, familiarity with design rules for function, manufacturing, and cost optimization, experience interpreting flow simulations and tool design, hands-on experience with plastic injection molding and process optimization, experience with secondary processes (joining, painting, plating, lamination), exemplary verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally are also required.
Lucid Motors offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $203,900 to $298,980 USD annually. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
