Archer is seeking a Staff Advanced Concepts Optimization Engineer to join our Concept Development team in San Jose, California. As a leading aerospace company, Archer is dedicated to advancing sustainable air mobility through the development of all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the future of electric flight within a dynamic and innovative environment.

In this position, you will be responsible for developing Archer's multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) engine, workflows, and high-performance computing resources for aircraft concept development. Key tasks include translating business goals into optimization objectives and constraints, deploying the MDO engine to create optimal vehicle designs, and communicating findings to stakeholders to support executive decision-making. Additionally, you will collaborate with systems engineers to transform designs into high-level requirements and work with the broader engineering team to bring these concepts to reality.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience, including a proven track record of architectural ownership and technical leadership. Proficiency in Python, along with experience using libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, OpenMDAO, JAX, CasADi, SMT, and PyTorch, is essential. A strong understanding of numerical methods, uncertainty quantification, and sensitivity analysis is also required. Experience in aircraft concept design, eVTOL mission profile design, and electric powertrain modeling will be advantageous.

Archer offers a competitive base salary ranging from $160,000 to $200,000 for the Staff level position, with additional compensation including bonuses and equity determined during the interview process.
