Staff Aerothermal Engineer
Archer is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Aerothermal Engineer to join our Thermal Management Team within the Flight Sciences organization. This role is pivotal in developing and implementing thermal management strategies for a hybrid propulsion system in one of our aircraft programs. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our Powertrain and vehicle architecture teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability across the aircraft.
Key responsibilities include designing, analyzing, and optimizing thermal management systems for both air-breathing and electric engines, as well as their integration into the aircraft platform. The engineer will drive the OML definition of inlet and outlet ducts for air-breathing engines, optimizing intake and exhaust shapes to minimize installation effects. Additionally, the role involves analyzing internal flows through convective heat exchange units for electric engine and battery cooling, defining system requirements, and utilizing advanced CFD and FEA tools for detailed thermal analysis.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS, MS, or PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with over six years of experience in thermal analysis and design of air-breathing engines within the aerospace industry. A strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and aerodynamics fundamentals is essential. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing thermal management strategies for aerospace propulsion applications, including air-breathing engines, electric motors, and batteries, is required. Proficiency in CFD and FEA software packages, as well as programming skills in Python or Matlab/Simulink, is highly desirable.
