Staff Engineer, Memory Systems Architecture
Samsung Semiconductor is seeking a Staff Engineer for Memory Systems Architecture to join our Fault Management team in San Jose, California. This team focuses on analyzing DRAM failure modes and developing solutions to minimize system downtime in AI/ML hardware deployments. By leveraging in-field telemetry data, we aim to enhance the customer quality experience for Samsung memory products.
In this role, you will analyze trends and patterns from extensive memory fleet telemetry to categorize failures and perform virtual root-cause analysis. Your responsibilities include developing solutions to proactively prevent system downtime, interfacing with customers to communicate improved ECC schemes based on Samsung DRAM failure modes, and contributing to the standardization of DRAM/HBM failure logging in the OCP. Additionally, you will propose and develop platform RAS algorithms for memory fault management, such as page offlining and hPPR, and conduct proof-of-concept tests with known failure DIMMs in real server applications.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, a Master's with 8+ years, or a PhD with 5+ years in hardware fault management, reliability, or data center fleet management. Required skills include knowledge of platform memory subsystems, platform RAS features such as ECC and hardware sparing, ECC design and verification, understanding of CPU and memory address mapping, memory controller register modification, Linux kernel experience, and comprehension of DRAM and HBM failure modes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset are essential.
