Staff Enterprise Engineer

Duolingo is seeking a Staff Enterprise Engineer to join its Enterprise Engineering team, which is responsible for building and operating internal platforms, identity systems, and automation tools that support daily operations. This role is based in New York City or Pittsburgh and focuses on delivering secure, reliable, and scalable employee experiences.

The Staff Enterprise Engineer will lead the design and implementation of foundational enterprise platforms and services, such as identity and access management, SaaS integrations, and internal tooling. Responsibilities include driving infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices, automating employee lifecycle workflows, establishing service level objectives for internal services, and participating in incident response. Collaboration with Security, Finance, Legal, and Procurement teams is essential to implement SaaS governance and risk controls.

Candidates should have demonstrated staff-level impact in leading large, multi-stakeholder engineering projects with measurable reliability or efficiency improvements. Deep hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, strong background in identity and access management concepts, proficiency in building automations integrating with APIs for systems like Okta and Google Workspace, and operational excellence in defining service level objectives are required. Clear communication skills and the ability to work from or relocate to New York City or Pittsburgh are also necessary.
