Staff Opto Mechanical Engineer
Anduril Industries is seeking a Staff Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join their Imaging team in Boulder, Colorado. This team is dedicated to developing state-of-the-art imaging systems that address significant security challenges faced by the United States and its allies. The company focuses on leveraging advanced technologies such as computer vision, electro-optical systems, and infrared sensors to provide strategic advantages in defense applications.
In this role, the engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical design, analysis, assembly, and testing of optical payloads, particularly for a state-of-the-art ladar system. Key responsibilities include developing precision pointing optical systems from concept to deployment, defining system architecture to optimize designs, executing detailed opto-mechanical designs, building and testing prototypes, analyzing failures, and transitioning successful projects into production. Additionally, the role involves supporting critical hardware demonstrations and contributing to the development of new optical systems.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field, along with at least 8 years of hands-on experience in designing, analyzing, and integrating complex opto-mechanical systems or high-precision instrumentation. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks) for structural, thermal, and vibration analysis is essential. Experience with optical mounting techniques, materials selection for stable structures, hands-on integration and testing, and a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) are also required. Leadership experience in guiding technical teams through the full design lifecycle and vendor management for sourcing custom components are important qualifications. Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance is mandatory.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $190,000 to $252,000 annually, with highly competitive equity grants included in most full-time offers.
