Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Simulation
Anduril Industries is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of a distributed simulation product. This role involves enabling heterogeneous groups of robots to collaborate across multiple physical sites, contributing to the company's mission of transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology.
The engineer will be responsible for the full product lifecycle, including scoping user requirements, designing architecture, implementing solutions, and providing ongoing support. Key tasks include managing server-client discrepancies, optimizing GPU-intensive computations, registering new robots to the network, ensuring seamless software updates, transferring data across segregated networks, and monitoring simulation states for debugging and reporting purposes.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance. They should have recent experience writing and maintaining complex software codebases, prior experience in distributed simulation—particularly from developing network-based multiplayer games or similar defense contexts—and experience as a tech lead and mentor for teams of at least five engineers.
Preferred qualifications include a strong engineering background in fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics; over eight years of software engineering experience with significant work in at least two of the following languages: C++, Golang, Java, Rust, Python; experience setting up CI/CD pipelines, metrics and logging infrastructure for live services, and alerting systems; and familiarity with cloud infrastructure tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS, as well as experience with Nix.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $220,000 to $292,000 USD, along with highly competitive equity grants. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans at little to no cost, life and disability insurance, generous PTO plans with a holiday hiatus in December, family planning and parenting support, access to free mental health resources 24/7, annual reimbursement for professional development, company-funded commuter benefits, and relocation assistance depending on role eligibility.
