Archer is seeking a Staff State Estimation Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. As a leading aerospace company, Archer is dedicated to developing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft aimed at advancing sustainable air mobility. Our mission is to design, manufacture, and operate aircraft capable of carrying four passengers with minimal noise, revolutionizing urban transportation.

In this role, you will be responsible for architecting and designing advanced state estimation algorithms for our eVTOL aircraft, ensuring safety while optimizing performance, robustness, and computational efficiency. Your day-to-day tasks will include implementing these algorithms primarily in Simulink, integrating state estimation solutions with various hardware components such as air data systems, Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), and other aviation-grade sensors. Additionally, you will develop and execute verification and validation strategies, including simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and flight testing.

The ideal candidate will possess over nine years of experience in designing, implementing, and verifying state estimation algorithms. A Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field is required. Proficiency in Simulink/MATLAB for algorithm development and simulation is essential, along with experience in sensor fusion from various sources, including INS, GNSS, airspeed sensors, and altimeters. A demonstrated ability to think critically from high-level architecture down to low-level implementation details is crucial, as is a proven track record of developing effective verification and validation methodologies. Working knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-178C, and DO-331 is also necessary.

Archer offers a competitive base salary ranging from $170,000 to $215,000, determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. and inclusivity in the workplace, ensuring all aspects of employment are decided based on merit, qualifications, and business needs. Archer is unable to provide work visa sponsorship for this position at the present time.
