Structural Design Engineer, Test
Archer is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a pivotal role in designing and testing structural components for our all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sustainable air mobility solutions.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing test fixtures and equipment using CAD software, assembling these fixtures, and conducting structural tests on critical flight components. Your day-to-day activities will include creating and reviewing technical drawings, procuring necessary materials, managing suppliers for test fixture design, and leading small test teams to ensure the successful execution of test programs. Additionally, you will collect and analyze test data, define testing procedures, and enforce safety protocols within the structural test lab.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in engineering and have over five years of experience working with lightweight structures such as those found in aircraft, spacecraft, or other high-performance vehicles. Proficiency in CAD software like NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo is essential, along with a solid understanding of load paths and laminate design fundamentals. Experience with composite part manufacturing and familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems are also required. The role demands the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and a willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
Archer offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary ranging from $126,000 to $160,000 annually.
