Structural, Test Design & Analysis Engineer
Archer is seeking a Structural, Test Design & Analysis Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. As a key member of our engineering department, you will contribute to the development of our all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed to revolutionize urban air mobility with sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with team leads, suppliers, and engineers specializing in design, stress analysis, and materials and processes throughout the entire product development cycle. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, setting up, and executing tests for composite and metallic airframe structures, as well as creating test fixtures and setups using CAD software such as NX. Additionally, you will perform structural analyses utilizing both handbook methods and finite element analysis (FEA), correlate test results with predictions, and prepare comprehensive technical documents, including analysis reports and test plans.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering or a related technical field, with the ability to design and analyze simple components and a solid understanding of load paths and structural analysis. Proficiency in CAD or FEA software is essential, along with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage projects effectively. Candidates should be adaptable, self-motivated team players who thrive in fast-paced environments. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
Preferred qualifications include experience with lightweight structures such as those found in aircraft, spacecraft, or other high-performance vehicles, familiarity with small passenger aircraft or helicopters, and experience in manufacturing composite parts or mechanical systems. Additional desirable skills encompass programming or scripting for engineering automation, training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), kinematic modeling and analysis, structural testing, instrumentation, data acquisition systems (DAQs), and hands-on experience with composite materials.
