Talent Development Manager
The Talent Development Manager will support the transactional and litigation practice groups in Milbank's Los Angeles office. This role is part of the Legal Personnel Department and reports to the Director of Attorney Talent Development. The position requires interaction with employees at all levels in a fast-paced environment, demanding flexibility, proactivity, resourcefulness, and a high level of professionalism.
Key responsibilities include understanding the practice groups, their attorneys, administrative teams, deal flow, and clients. The manager will collaborate with partners to deliver consistent developmental and training messages during associate performance evaluations. They will monitor associates' reviews, matters, workloads, and professional development goals, and coordinate with Staffing Partners to assign associates to ongoing and new matters based on workload and developmental needs.
The role also involves counseling associates on their career goals, working with Training Partners and the Professional Development team to create and implement a multi-tiered transactional training program, and liaising with the Professional Development team on Deals@Milbank. Additionally, the manager will develop and facilitate events to foster cohesion and communication within the group, manage onboarding and exit procedures for associates, and conduct exit interviews.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and have four to eight years of law firm experience, with a preference for relevant transactional experience. Strong interpersonal, presentation, communication, leadership, time management, and organizational skills are essential. High responsiveness to time-sensitive issues and flexibility regarding working hours are required. In-person attendance on a hybrid schedule is expected.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $160,000 and $180,000, representing the firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base compensation range. Actual base compensation will depend on factors such as the candidate's relevant experience, performance, qualifications, degrees, and location, as well as the needs of the firm.
