Team Lead - Composite Structures
Rocket Lab Corporation is seeking a Team Lead for Composite Structures to join the Neutron Mechanical team in Auckland, New Zealand. This role involves leading the design, development, and delivery of structural, mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems for the Neutron launch vehicle, a next-generation medium-lift, reusable rocket. The successful candidate will manage a team of engineers and oversee projects from concept through to launch, contributing significantly to the advancement of space exploration.
Key responsibilities include leading the entire lifecycle of Neutron mechanical systems, encompassing conceptual and critical design, development testing, qualification, integration, and operational support. The Team Lead will ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects by effectively managing schedules, budgets, resources, and technical risks. Collaboration with various departments and teams, such as supply chain, quality, production, fluids, avionics, and propulsion, is essential to prioritize program activities. Additionally, the role involves mentoring and supporting direct reports to maintain a motivated and efficient team, coordinating activities between design, test, and analysis engineers, and proactively addressing technical challenges to maintain project momentum.
Candidates should possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and have over five years of experience in high-performance industries like aerospace, aviation, automotive, or marine. A proven track record of leading teams to deliver comprehensive engineering projects from conception to operation is essential. The ability to meet deadlines in high-pressure environments, strong communication skills, and the capacity to build effective working relationships are also required. Experience in areas such as composite materials, moving mechanical assemblies, pressure vessels, aerodynamic control systems, fluid systems, or thermal protection systems is highly desirable.
