Test Operations Engineer II/Senior Test Operations Engineer
The Test Operations Engineer II/Senior Test Operations Engineer at Rocket Lab's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi is responsible for activating and operating critical test facilities supporting the Archimedes rocket engine and the Neutron launch vehicle. This role involves close collaboration with Engine and Vehicle Propulsion groups to develop test procedures and sequencing requirements, ensuring the successful configuration, checkout, and operation of engine hot fire facilities and associated support infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include performing facility test operations on console while maintaining situational awareness and communication with team members, leading and participating in the setup and operation of test facilities, conducting test operations safely to ensure data integrity, troubleshooting facility and test operations issues, planning and optimizing checkout, processing, testing, and post-test operations, collaborating with design teams to prepare and perform tests on engine and stage hardware, and working with Ground Support Equipment teams to complete design, build, installation, and checkout of facility systems.
Required qualifications for the Engineer II level include a bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering or a related technical discipline, along with at least 2 years of experience operating rocket engine test stands or launch complexes. For the Senior Engineer I level, a bachelor's degree in the same fields is required, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications encompass a broad engineering background with the ability to design systems and develop automation tools, experience operating facilities for liquid oxygen and liquid methane, personal development activities such as pilot training or leadership roles in sports teams, working knowledge of computer networks and IT infrastructure, demonstrated experience collaborating with various disciplines to achieve project execution, and the ability to remain composed amid ambiguity or changes in strategic direction.
