Tooling Design Engineer
Archer is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to join our team in Huntington Beach, California. As a leading aerospace company, we are dedicated to developing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to revolutionize sustainable air mobility. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge aviation technology.
In this position, you will collaborate closely with airframe design and manufacturing engineers to provide manufacturing and assembly input during the initial design stages. Your responsibilities will include designing tooling for trim, drill, and assembly operations, as well as creating manufacturing aids to support daily production activities. You will be responsible for conceptualization, material selection, vendor sourcing, and final inspection of these tools. Additionally, you will create CAD files and drawings for assembly fixtures using 3D CAD software, with a preference for NX experience, and ensure proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of professional industry experience and hold a bachelor's or advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or possess equivalent experience. Hands-on experience with fabrication and assembly skills, demonstrated through past work, student teams, internships, or personal projects, is essential. Previous experience in manufacturing or assembling a full vehicle, including exposure to integration efforts, is highly desirable. A strong understanding of composite part design, material properties, allowables, and testing is required, along with proficiency in solid modeling and surfacing in 3D CAD software and GD&T. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary.
We offer a competitive base salary ranging from $114,000 to $142,000 annually, with actual compensation determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
