VMS Software Engineer

Archer is seeking a resourceful Embedded Software Engineer to join our Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) team in San Jose, California. As a key member of this team, you will contribute to the development of high-reliability real-time systems for our all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise.

In this role, you will write efficient, robust C++ code for Embedded Linux platforms, develop drivers and manage communications over interfaces such as CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and UART. You will also engage in hardware integration and bring-up, utilizing tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot and ensure system performance.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of embedded software engineering experience, strong proficiency in modern C++ (11/14/17/20), and fluency in Python and Bash for testing and prototyping. A solid understanding of Embedded Linux, real-time constraints, and resource-constrained hardware is essential. Familiarity with build systems like Yocto, GTest, CMake, and Ansible is a plus.
