Warhead Design & Test Engineer – Modeling and Simulation
Anduril Industries is seeking a Warhead Design & Test Engineer specializing in Modeling and Simulation to join our Energetics Team in Costa Mesa, California. This team is responsible for designing and testing complex munitions systems, transitioning them from prototype to production, and developing innovative ordnance technologies across multiple platforms.
In this role, you will leverage academic research, empirical data, and simulation tools to guide the design of warheads and missile/ordnance systems from concept to production. Your responsibilities will include analyzing lethality and performance using hand calculations and multi-physics modeling tools, creating pre-test predictions, correlating models with test data, managing comprehensive testing processes, and assembling/disassembling explosive test articles and precision targets.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS or higher degree in mechanical, aerospace, explosives, or a related engineering discipline, along with 2-10 years of experience in mechanical design, analysis, and testing of warheads or ordnance systems. Proficiency in multi-physics modeling and simulation tools such as ALE3D, Ansys Autodyn/LS-Dyna, CTH, EPIC, Matlab, Python, Sierra, Velodyne, or Zapotec is essential. Additionally, experience in data acquisition, data analysis, project coordination, and the ability to travel up to 25% for testing are required. Candidates must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include an active U.S. security clearance (DoD Secret or Top-Secret or DOE L or Q), expert-level experience with multi-physics modeling and simulation tools, experience with munitions testing, proficiency with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks or NX CAD, prior experience in explosive operations and/or handling munitions, familiarity with DoD Weapons Safety Boards, experience designing and scaling production of mechanical components at volume, and experience developing or testing complex electrical or mechatronics systems.
Anduril offers a competitive salary range of $166,000 to $220,000 USD, along with highly competitive equity grants.
