Associate Counsel
Nabis is seeking an Associate Counsel to join its growing legal team and support the company's commercial, regulatory, and operational legal needs. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate Counsel will serve as a trusted legal partner across the business, drafting and negotiating contracts, navigating cannabis compliance, and advising internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters. This role offers a high level of ownership for a collaborative attorney who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and is energized by the complexity and opportunity of the cannabis industry.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, such as vendor contracts, distribution agreements, brand partnerships, NDAs, and licensing agreements. The Associate Counsel will advise business teams on regulatory compliance across California, Nevada, and New York cannabis markets, including license requirements, product labeling, and advertising rules. Additionally, the role involves supporting corporate governance matters, partnering with various teams to provide practical legal guidance, monitoring evolving cannabis laws and regulations, assisting with employment-related legal matters, managing outside counsel relationships, and improving legal processes and tools.
The ideal candidate will have a J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission, preferably in California, with 2–5 years of legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house, ideally with exposure to commercial contracts and regulatory matters. Experience in cannabis, alcohol & beverage, agriculture, logistics, or another regulated industry is a strong plus. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to independently manage multiple matters simultaneously with strong attention to detail, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have a high ownership mindset with a collaborative, business-enabling approach to legal work.
Nabis offers competitive compensation, including a salary range of $115,000 to $125,000, with additional bonus potential depending on job level.
