inKind is seeking a Data Engineer to join their development team in Austin, Texas. This role focuses on building and maintaining AI-ready data foundations that power inKind's intelligent products, machine learning models, and large language model (LLM) applications. The Data Engineer will collaborate across departments to design, deploy, and optimize highly available data pipelines that support analytics, ML training, and retrieval-augmented generation systems.

Key responsibilities include owning architectural processes for various data models, such as schemas, vector stores, and knowledge bases that support AI and LLM use cases. The role also involves designing and operating feature pipelines, embedding pipelines, and evaluation datasets that support machine learning model training, fine-tuning, and continuous evaluation. Additionally, the Data Engineer will work cross-functionally with leadership, development, finance, and data science teams to convert data into understandable information and AI-ready inputs. Ensuring that implemented data and AI systems have relevant security, privacy, and data-governance controls is also a critical aspect of the role.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of professional database development experience, preferably in a fast-paced and complex business setting. Expert-level knowledge of SQL, with a focus on writing and optimizing queries, is required. Demonstrated experience building and maintaining reliable and scalable ETL/ELT processes using Snowflake, dbt, and AWS architecture is essential. Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML tooling, along with experience integrating with LLM APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI), is also necessary. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to communication are important for success in this role.

The compensation package includes a salary range of $135,000 to $155,000, depending on experience. Benefits encompass 100% employer-paid medical and dental coverage, vision coverage, company-paid short-term disability, unlimited paid time off, nine paid company holidays annually, generous parental leave, and childcare benefits. Additional perks include daily catered lunches, office snacks, credits to dine within the inKind restaurant network, and a collaborative, in-person work environment in a dog-friendly office with views of downtown Austin.
