Data Scientist, Data Science
LaunchDarkly is seeking a Data Scientist to join its Core Data Science team, a pivotal group responsible for the foundational methodologies within the company's product suite. This team ensures the statistical integrity of products, develops innovative techniques to enhance user value, advocates for technically sophisticated users in product development, and elevates data-driven decision-making across the organization. Given the inherently statistical nature of many LaunchDarkly products, such as experimentation and release management tools, the Core Data Science team's contributions are essential to delivering optimal user experiences.
In this role, the Data Scientist will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, and product teams. Responsibilities include conducting research to design features that meet specific statistical and performance criteria, creating reference implementations, advising engineers on production feature implementation, and occasionally contributing to production code. Additionally, the Data Scientist will assist design and product teams in scoping and sizing projects with technical considerations and contribute to design discussions requiring a technical perspective. A key aspect of the role involves making data accessible and actionable for the team by developing and refining metrics, optimizing queries, and managing processes and tools that support data-driven decision-making.
Candidates should possess at least three years of industry experience, a Master's or PhD in Statistics or a related field, or equivalent experience in online experimentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences. The role requires a pragmatic and iterative approach to engineering, emphasizing incremental progress and continuous delivery.
Compensation for this position varies based on geographic location. For example, in the San Francisco Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, the salary range is $121,800 to $167,530. In other U.S. locations, the range is $103,600 to $142,450. Additional benefits include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, and dental insurance, and mental health support.

The company is committed to diversity and inclusion, seeking out diverse perspectives to achieve better results. Employees have opportunities for growth and development within a supportive and innovative environment, making LaunchDarkly an attractive workplace for professionals looking to make a significant impact in the field of data science.
