Data Scientist - (Global)
KoBold Metals is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in advancing mineral exploration through artificial intelligence. Our mission is to discover and develop critical battery metals essential for a low-carbon economy. With a global portfolio exceeding 50 exploration properties, we aim to revolutionize the industry by enhancing exploration success rates and efficiency.
In this role, you will develop predictive models and apply scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to identify evidence of ore-forming processes and predict locations of ore-grade mineralization in both 2D and 3D. Collaborating closely with our geoscientists, you will integrate diverse geophysical, geochemical, geological, and geographic data into our proprietary systems, contributing to the acceleration of critical battery metal discoveries.
Key responsibilities include developing KoBold’s proprietary software exploration tools, curating and integrating various geoscientific datasets, building statistically valid predictive models, creating effective visualizations for model evaluation, and applying data processing techniques to guide exploration decisions. Additionally, you will present findings and collaborate with external partners and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate holds an advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics, with a minimum of 4 years post-PhD or 8 years post-MS experience as a data scientist or data engineer. Proficiency in Python’s data science packages, collaborative software development practices, cloud computing resources, predictive modeling, and geospatial analyses is essential. Strong knowledge of applied statistics, Bayesian inference, and machine learning algorithms is also required.
KoBold Metals offers a competitive base salary range of $190,000 to $235,000, along with equity and comprehensive benefits, including a 401(k) match.
