Director of Mineral Processing
The Director of Mineral Processing at KoBold Metals will lead the development and execution of mineral processing strategies across the company's portfolio, with an initial focus on the Mingomba copper project in Zambia. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role encompasses all aspects of process engineering, from early-stage metallurgical testwork through feasibility study design and operational readiness. KoBold Metals is a pioneering company that integrates artificial intelligence and novel sensors to revolutionize mineral exploration, aiming to discover critical materials essential for the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Key responsibilities include owning the process flowsheet design for Mingomba and future projects, managing metallurgical testwork programs such as comminution characterization and flotation optimization, and evaluating processing routes like froth flotation and hydrometallurgical methods. The role also involves developing process design criteria, mass and water balances, and equipment specifications for feasibility-level engineering. Additionally, the Director will lead assessments of tailings characteristics and environmental implications of process residues.
The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience with large-scale chemical processes, demonstrating quantitative, statistical, and scientific rigor, including the execution of experimental designs to optimize multistage processing of complex feedstocks. Experience in mineral processing, particularly with copper sulfide projects from testwork through to operating plant design or commissioning, is highly desirable. Strong technical writing skills and a track record of managing consultants, laboratories, and multidisciplinary technical teams are essential. The role requires a willingness to travel to project sites in Zambia and other KoBold locations, estimated at 20–30%.
KoBold Metals offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $300,000, plus equity and benefits including 401(k) matching. The company fosters a collaborative and innovative culture, providing opportunities for professional growth and the chance to work on cutting-edge projects that have a meaningful impact on the future of mineral exploration and sustainable resource development.
