KoBold Metals is seeking a Data Scientist at the Staff or Senior level to join our team in Australia. As a mineral exploration company leveraging artificial intelligence, we focus on discovering and developing resources essential for the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our portfolio includes over 50 exploration properties targeting nickel, copper, cobalt, and lithium, ranging from fully owned projects to partnerships with major and junior explorers.

In this role, you will develop predictive models and apply a range of scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to identify evidence of ore-forming processes and predict locations of ore-grade mineralization in both 2D and 3D. You will contribute to building a comprehensive global dataset that underpins our exploration program, emphasizing the identification and quantification of uncertainties in data and predictions. Collaborating closely with our geoscientists, you will create geological predictions, design field programs, and utilize collected data to refine our models and guide subsequent exploration phases.

Key responsibilities include developing proprietary software exploration tools, curating and integrating diverse geoscientific data into our systems, building statistically valid predictive models, creating visualizations to assess model performance, applying data processing and statistical techniques to geoscientific data, and collaborating with external partners and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Python's data science packages and software engineering practices, collaborative software development using Git, familiarity with unit testing and CI/CD pipelines, proficiency with cloud computing resources, experience in building and evaluating predictive models, handling data from various physical systems, and conducting geospatial analyses and visualizations. A strong foundation in applied statistics, Bayesian inference, and machine learning algorithms is essential. Candidates should hold an advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics, with a minimum of 4 years post-PhD or 8 years post-Master's experience, ideally as a data scientist or data engineer. Experience leading technical teams to apply novel scientific approaches to core business problems is also desired.

KoBold Metals offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 to $240,000 USD, along with equity and benefits. As a remote-first workplace, we are open to candidates residing anywhere in Australia, provided they are legally authorized to work in the country. This position is full-time and exempt.
