Garner Health is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its Search team, which is responsible for the provider recommendations system, provider data aggregation pipelines, and AI-powered member support systems. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer and is based in New York City, requiring in-office presence three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

The Director of Engineering will lead the development of a world-class Search system that organizes provider data to deliver relevant and impactful recommendations to members. Responsibilities include driving the execution of quarterly deliverables and long-term strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align strategies and achieve company objectives, and providing leadership to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability. The role also involves ensuring the team proactively incorporates relevant new technologies, system designs, and strategies, especially in big data, machine learning, and AI domains, and championing the privacy and security of users' data.

The ideal candidate has over six years of experience in software engineering, including more than three years managing software or data engineering teams, and at least one year managing engineering managers. Experience operating production machine learning systems for user-facing use cases using modern ML platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex AI, MLflow, BentoML) is required. Familiarity with feature engineering technologies, the production ML lifecycle, and data engineering concepts supporting ML-powered systems is essential. Experience with personalization, recommendation, or search systems is preferred, along with the ability to translate complex business needs into a clear, executable technical roadmap. Experience working with regulated data and healthcare data standards (HIPAA, EDI) is a plus.

The target salary range for this position is $285,000 to $315,000 annually. Individual compensation will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws.
