Director, Mechanical Engineering
The Director of Mechanical Engineering at Axon leads the development of next-generation life-saving technologies from conceptualization through production. This role is integral to Axon's mission to protect life by advancing public safety through innovative devices and cloud software solutions. The position is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and follows a hybrid work schedule, emphasizing in-person collaboration to foster teamwork and innovation.
Key responsibilities include leading and inspiring a team of mechanical engineers to innovate and achieve their full potential in a dynamic environment. The director will oversee the detailed design, development, and testing of mechanical products and systems, ensuring engineering rigor and adherence to the highest quality standards throughout the development lifecycle. Additionally, the role involves shaping and executing the mechanical engineering strategy, collaborating with various departments to create a cohesive business strategy, and maintaining relationships with external partners and vendors.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, with a Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 15 years of product design experience in high-end consumer or professional electronic products is required, along with at least 6 years of experience leading mechanical engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of launching high-volume electronic products, experience with high-volume manufacturing and assembly processes, and extensive collaboration with overseas development and manufacturing partners. Proficiency in PDM/PLM systems, strong DFM/DFA skills, and the ability to balance conflicting design constraints through analysis and creativity are also essential.
