Axon is seeking a Director of Artificial Intelligence to lead machine learning platform initiatives within the Dedrone division. This role involves harnessing Dedrone's extensive network of sensors and data to deliver impactful outcomes for public safety clients. The Director will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering for Dedrone and play a pivotal role in the leadership team.

The primary responsibilities include operating as a visionary leader to guide and inspire the adoption of AI technologies across Axon's value chain. The Director will grow and lead a team of machine learning platform engineers to develop innovative AI solutions, focusing on distributed machine learning training workflows, edge AI, and data engineering. Collaboration with science, technology, and product teams is essential to define, architect, and build data ingestion systems and model training pipelines, ensuring seamless integration from experimentation to deployment and continuous performance improvement.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field, along with over 10 years of software engineering experience. A proven track record in architecting and building highly available, low-latency systems for high-traffic applications is required. Additionally, at least 6 years in a leadership or management role with experience in building and leading engineering teams is necessary. Proficiency in Scala (or Java) and experience with machine learning workflows in Python are also required.
