Marqeta is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead and evolve our Credit platform. This critical leadership role involves scaling the next generation of innovative credit products that power modern fintech experiences. The successful candidate will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for building, operating, and modernizing core components of our credit platform, partnering closely with Product, Data, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to define strategy and deliver resilient, secure, and highly available systems at scale.

Key responsibilities include leading and developing multiple engineering teams focused on core credit capabilities, driving platform resiliency, scalability, and operational excellence, and partnering with Product to shape the roadmap and delivery strategy. The role also involves establishing clear engineering standards around quality, reliability, testing, and documentation, improving execution rigor, leading architectural discussions, staying close to the codebase and system design, recruiting and developing top engineering talent, and fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of engineering experience, including more than 5 years leading managers or multiple teams. Experience in building and scaling distributed systems in cloud-native environments, preferably AWS, is essential, along with a strong background in microservices architectures and high availability systems. Proven ability to operate in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments is required. Experience in fintech is strongly preferred; credit domain experience is a plus but not mandatory. A demonstrated track record of raising engineering standards and improving execution discipline, comfort navigating ambiguity, and high personal standards with a bias toward action are also important.

Marqeta offers a competitive compensation package, with a base salary range of $242,400 to $303,000, along with annual bonuses for eligible employees.
