Principal Software Engineer
As a Principal Software Engineer at Marqeta, you will lead high-impact projects within the Core Issuing & Processing team, driving initiatives from inception to completion. This role involves optimizing our issuing and processing engines, owning the technical roadmap for the core platform, and collaborating with engineering leaders to enhance engineering and operational excellence across the organization.
Key responsibilities include authoring system designs that enable scalable, secure, and efficient card issuing and payment processing products. You will write, review, and optimize code across the issuing and processing stack, identify and drive technical initiatives to improve performance and reliability, and collaborate with Product Managers to analyze requirements across various domains. Additionally, you will mentor technical leads, influence stakeholders, and establish success metrics to drive technical excellence.
The ideal candidate has over 12 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong passion for software engineering excellence, including design principles, fault tolerance, scalability, and test-driven development. Experience in partnering with product teams, developing and scaling microservices using modern cloud technologies (preferably AWS), and working with high-volume, low-latency data infrastructures is essential. Familiarity with security engineering best practices and experience with technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Kafka, JPOS, and AWS services are highly desirable.
Marqeta offers a competitive compensation package, with base salary ranges varying by location. For example, the base salary range for this position is $242,400 - $303,000 for most of the United States, with higher ranges for premium locations.
