Compass is seeking an Economist to join its Economics & Research Group within the CIH Data & Analytics organization. This team is dedicated to producing data-driven research and content that help agents, consumers, and the media understand housing market dynamics. The Economist will collaborate directly with the Chief Economist and the data and analytics team to analyze and communicate macroeconomic forces affecting housing markets nationwide.

The Economist will monitor and synthesize macroeconomic trends, including Federal Reserve policies, labor markets, consumer sentiment, inflation, and interest rates, to assess their implications for residential real estate markets. They will produce regional and local market analyses, translating national macroeconomic insights to metro, neighborhood, and price-tier levels. Additionally, the role involves researching topics such as luxury market dynamics, the impact of AI on labor markets and housing demand, and geographic market segmentation.

Key responsibilities include writing research reports, market commentaries, and data-driven narratives for agents, consumers, journalists, and institutional partners. The Economist will contribute to Compass's market intelligence publications, including luxury and high-end market reporting, and prepare data summaries, charts, and talking points for media and public relations efforts. They will also produce data visualizations to make economic and housing data accessible and engaging, and build presentation materials for agents, sales meetings, and leadership briefings. The role requires building and maintaining housing market forecasting models that incorporate macroeconomic inputs such as mortgage rates, employment, and GDP, and applying econometric techniques, including regression analysis and time series modeling, to support market outlooks.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Real Estate, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. They should possess a strong understanding of macroeconomics, with knowledge of housing markets, mortgage finance, Federal Reserve policy, labor markets, and consumer economics. Excellent communication skills are essential, with the ability to explain economic concepts to non-expert audiences. Experience in producing charts and graphics for research or media, familiarity with tools such as Flourish or Datawrapper, and a track record of published research, market reports, or economic commentary are also required.
