Engineering Manager- (Agentic AI Products)
Interface AI is seeking a Hands-On Engineering Manager to lead the development of AI-native, agentic products that transform customer interactions with financial institutions across voice, chat, and digital channels. This role involves building a universal banking assistant powered by the proprietary BankGPT platform, aiming to redefine the customer experience in the financial sector.
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for driving AI-first thinking across product architecture and execution, embedding large language models (LLMs), multi-agent systems, and structured reasoning into customer-facing workflows. Key duties include architecting and implementing systems that coordinate multiple AI agents, designing orchestration layers for reliable execution, and developing evaluation pipelines to ensure production standards. Additionally, the role involves designing distributed backend systems for real-time interactions, optimizing latency-sensitive systems, and building event-driven architectures that handle high concurrency and fault tolerance.
Candidates should have at least 8 years of backend engineering experience building distributed systems, with strong expertise in low-latency systems such as voice/telephony platforms, real-time streaming systems, or chat/messaging architectures. A minimum of 3 years working with LLM-powered or AI-driven systems in production is required, along with hands-on experience designing and orchestrating agentic workflows. Proficiency in TypeScript and at least two backend languages (e.g., Node.js, Go, Java, Rust) is essential, as well as a deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and reliability. Experience in engineering management or technical leadership, with a proven ability to grow and mentor engineers, is also necessary.
The position offers a base salary between $200,000 and $240,000, plus performance bonuses and equity options. Additional benefits include 100% paid health, dental, and vision care, 401(k) match and financial wellness perks, discretionary PTO, paid parental leave, and mental health, wellness, and family benefits. The role is in-office, requiring candidates to live within commuting distance of the Palo Alto or San Francisco office hubs.
