SDE III - Backend
The Software Development Engineer III (SDE III) - Backend role at Interface AI involves joining the Core Platform Team, which is responsible for designing and scaling foundational systems that power the company's AI-driven products. In this position, the SDE III will design and build high-availability, low-latency services that power AI-based voice and digital agents. Responsibilities include contributing to orchestration logic that handles tool invocation, conversational memory, session management, and multi-turn logic. The role also involves integrating backend systems with AI components such as language models, speech pipelines, and structured data sources. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including machine learning, product, compliance, and user experience, is essential to deliver intelligent and trustworthy user experiences. Additionally, the SDE III will identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and system-wide scalability challenges, participate in design and architecture reviews, mentor junior engineers, and uphold engineering excellence through strong documentation, testing, observability, and DevOps practices.
The ideal candidate will have over four years of experience in backend engineering, preferably working on real-time or user-facing platforms. Strong programming skills in Java, Node.js, or similar languages are required, along with a deep understanding of asynchronous programming and system design. Proven experience in building and scaling distributed services, APIs, and event-driven systems is essential. Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is expected, as well as experience integrating services with data stores, message queues, and external APIs.
