Engineering Manager (cross platform/ML) - Edge AI (Remote ANZ)
Canva is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Edge AI team within the Video Studio group. This team focuses on integrating real-time, on-device machine learning capabilities into Canva's products, enhancing user experiences across iOS, Android, and web platforms. The role offers the flexibility to work remotely across Australia and New Zealand, with options to collaborate in Canva's Sydney and Melbourne campuses or co-working spaces throughout the region.
In this position, you will be responsible for guiding a team in developing cross-platform, on-device ML infrastructure and features using C++. Key tasks include setting team direction, translating complex challenges into clear priorities, and fostering an environment of thoughtful planning and strong execution. Collaboration with Platform, Research, Product, and ML stakeholders is essential to deliver impactful user experiences. Additionally, you will focus on strengthening engineering foundations in areas such as architecture, performance, testing, continuous integration, and maintainability, while promoting responsible production ML practices.
The ideal candidate has experience leading engineering teams that deliver complex technical products, particularly in systems-level, native, or cross-platform environments. Proficiency in systems programming discussions involving C/C++, native APIs, and performance trade-offs is important, even if not coding daily. A strong interest or experience in ML-powered product capabilities, such as on-device ML or inference runtimes, is desirable. Effective technical judgment, the ability to navigate architectural decisions, and a commitment to fostering inclusive and psychologically safe team cultures are also key attributes.
