Engineering Manager, Mobile App
As the Engineering Manager for Mobile & Frontend at Axon, you will lead and expand the team responsible for developing mobile IoT applications such as Axon Device Manager, Axon Device Checkout, and the Fleet 3 Dashboard. These applications connect Axon devices to officers in the field, enhancing transparency and protecting truth worldwide. This role offers the opportunity to define and staff future mobile offerings, consolidating experiences and scaling the platform to support additional applications and features.
In this position, you will collaborate daily with software engineers, product managers, designers, and a Release Manager to transform bold product concepts into secure, reliable mobile and frontend experiences. Your expertise in Android, iOS, or modern frontend development (React, TypeScript), along with a broad knowledge of modern application architecture, release practices, and observability, will enable you to set technical direction, unblock delivery, and elevate code quality and system design. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, you will lead a team of engineers in Vietnam while partnering closely with peer engineering leaders and product teams in the U.S., fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning that accelerates feature velocity without compromising quality and stability.
Key responsibilities include ensuring alignment of team objectives with organizational goals, driving execution through planning and agile ceremonies, delivering new features and performance optimizations on a predictable cadence, providing leadership for the mobile team in Vietnam, partnering with Product and Design to craft intuitive mobile experiences, working cross-functionally with other engineering teams to deliver seamless integration of key components, contributing to architecture discussions, and collaborating with Recruiting to attract and develop top talent. Additionally, you will champion modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, and observability, cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and ownership.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in mobile or software development, with at least 3 years managing engineers. Demonstrated success in planning and delivering multiple overlapping projects spanning several months is essential. Hands-on experience establishing engineering workflows that prioritize quality, security, maintainability, extensibility, and operational discipline is required. A track record of guiding and mentoring diverse teams while supporting both technical mastery and career growth is crucial. Deep proficiency in one of the following areas is necessary: Android, iOS, or modern frontend development (React, TypeScript), including shipping production apps to Google Play, the App Store, or deploying large-scale production frontend applications to real users.
