Facilities Operations Manager
The Facilities Operations Manager at xAI is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the continuous performance and reliability of the company's data center infrastructure. This position is integral to maintaining the uptime and efficiency of systems that drive xAI's advancements in artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will lead dedicated teams, oversee state-of-the-art facilities, and address complex challenges in real time to support the company's mission.
Key responsibilities include managing all aspects of critical data center infrastructure, such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, chillers, liquid cooling, and building monitoring, with a goal of achieving 99.999% uptime. The role involves leading 24/7 teams of facility technicians and vendors, fostering a culture of safety and accountability. Additionally, the manager will troubleshoot and resolve facility emergencies, spearhead optimization projects to integrate next-generation technologies, and oversee the operations budget to balance efficiency with performance under tight deadlines.
Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in data center operations or facility management, preferably with hyperscale or industrial systems. A strong understanding of critical infrastructure components, including power, cooling, and monitoring systems, is essential. Proven leadership abilities, project management skills under pressure, and sharp analytical and communication skills are also required.
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field, with an advanced degree being advantageous. Experience with GPU clusters or AI-driven data center environments, methodical troubleshooting capabilities, and familiarity with local regulations and practices are beneficial. Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Word, and operational software, along with knowledge of CAD or monitoring software, is also desirable.
