Fiber Documentation Engineer
As a Fiber Documentation Engineer at xAI, you will play a pivotal role in designing, documenting, and optimizing fiber optic networks that underpin our high-performance infrastructure. This position is integral to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our network systems, supporting xAI's mission to develop AI systems that accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge.
Your primary responsibilities will include documenting and designing fiber networks using tools such as IQGeo Network Manager and CAD, conducting site surveys to produce detailed OSP (aerial/underground) and ISP (building entry/riser) connectivity designs, and performing basic fiber testing with equipment like VFL and OPM. Additionally, you will be tasked with installing and maintaining fiber cross-connects, collaborating with teams on projects, permitting, and quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
The ideal candidate will have over five years of hands-on experience in fiber optic network design, surveying, testing, and OSP/ISP deployments. Proficiency with IQGeo Network Manager and CAD or similar geospatial design tools is essential. Experience with fiber testing equipment and cross-connect/jumper installations is required. A valid driver's license and the physical capability for fieldwork, including traversing varied terrain and handling cables, are necessary. The role requires approximately 50% travel, including overnight stays.
Preferred qualifications include relevant certifications such as CFOT or Fiber Optic Technician, strong knowledge of fiber optic standards, and experience with tools like NetBox. Experience in permitting processes and quality assurance within telecom or data center environments is advantageous. Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to safe work practices, are highly valued.
