Intern - Identity Security Engineering
As an Identity Security Engineering Intern at Marqeta, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the company's Identity and Access Management (IAM) strategies within a cloud-native environment. This 12-week internship, running from June 8th to August 28th, 2026, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to securing access across all of Marqeta's systems and services, which are entirely cloud-based with no data-center footprint. The position is open to candidates located remotely within Ontario or British Columbia, Canada.
In this role, you will assist in implementing and monitoring identity and access controls for Marqeta's AWS cloud infrastructure and critical SaaS applications. Your responsibilities will include contributing to projects aimed at improving the company's IAM posture, focusing on Okta configurations, single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and Privileged Access Management (PAM). Additionally, you will support the team in securing third-party vendor integrations and ensuring compliance with identity-related security policies across the cloud and SaaS landscape. Automating identity lifecycle processes, such as provisioning and de-provisioning, utilizing tools like Okta to enhance efficiency and reduce risk, will also be part of your duties. Documenting security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure clear and consistent guidelines for identity management within the company is another key aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field. A foundational knowledge of core security concepts, especially principles related to IAM and authentication/authorization protocols (e.g., SAML, OAuth, OIDC), is essential. Familiarity with the AWS cloud platform and the security challenges associated with a cloud-native and SaaS-heavy environment is also required. An eagerness to learn and take ownership of tasks in a fast-paced, high-growth fintech environment is highly valued.
Marqeta offers a competitive weekly rate of CAD 1,468 for this internship. Interns will also receive three vacation days, work in a remote, Flex First environment, and be paired with a mentor and intern buddy.
