Legal Systems Engineer
As a Legal Systems Engineer at Block, you will lead the design and evolution of the systems that power the Legal team, combining software engineering, system architecture, and legal domain expertise. This role is responsible for shaping how Legal leverages automation, data, and AI to operate more effectively at scale. You will work across a complex technology landscape—including ELM, eDiscovery, CLM, and AI platforms—to define and implement solutions that connect systems, improve workflows, and enable more intelligent ways of working.
Key responsibilities include defining and evolving the architecture of legal systems to ensure scalability and adaptability, identifying and driving high-impact opportunities to improve legal workflows through automation and AI, and leading the design and implementation of AI-driven solutions. You will also build and oversee integrations across various legal tools, develop APIs and data pipelines to connect systems, and provide technical leadership for eDiscovery and Information Governance workflows.
The ideal candidate will have 7–10+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or architecture roles, with strong programming skills in languages such as Python or JavaScript. Experience integrating SaaS platforms and APIs, hands-on experience with AI tools, and the ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments are essential. Deep experience with ELM/eBilling systems, eDiscovery processes, and an understanding of legal workflows are also required.
