Machine Learning Engineer - International SG
Canva is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the Product Enablement Team within the International Supergroup. This team focuses on accelerating Canva's growth and feature adoption in priority international markets by partnering closely with Global AI, Search, and Recommendations teams to bring cutting-edge capabilities to local markets with the right technical customizations and data insights.
In this role, you will work with local AI models and services, such as large language models (LLMs), image and video generation models, and recommendation systems, to support Canva's product needs in China. Your responsibilities will include fine-tuning and prompt engineering of models using localized datasets and usage signals, building and maintaining data pipelines and model-serving components for scalable, region-compliant AI system deployment, and collaborating with global and local teams across machine learning, product, infrastructure, legal, and compliance to achieve project goals. Additionally, you will run offline evaluations and support online experimentation to measure model performance and user impact, and contribute to technical discussions, sharing learnings with the Product Enablement and broader AI teams.
The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of experience in machine learning or software engineering, including internships and academic projects. Familiarity with at least one area of production machine learning, such as LLMs, search, recommendation, or generative AI, is essential. Strong coding skills in Python and hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face are required. Exposure to or interest in Chinese AI models, vendors, or datasets is a plus. A foundational understanding of modern machine learning practices, including fine-tuning, prompt engineering, data processing, and model evaluation, along with good communication and collaboration skills, are important. Experience with cloud platforms or machine learning infrastructure, such as containerization and GPU serving, is beneficial. A product mindset and curiosity about solving real user problems with AI are highly valued.
