Manager, Business Development
The Manager, Business Development at Block (Square) is responsible for leading a team of 10-15 Business Development Representatives (BDRs) who are integral to the company's growth strategy. This role involves overseeing outbound prospecting efforts, pipeline generation, and establishing long-term partnerships that support business success. The position is based in Sydney, Australia, and reports directly to the Director of Business Development.
Key responsibilities include managing and coaching the BDR team to achieve monthly and quarterly sales-qualified lead (SQL) and meeting targets. The manager will analyze funnel metrics to identify areas for improvement in outreach volume, conversion rates, and meeting quality. Collaboration with Sales leadership is essential to ensure the pipeline meets quality standards and converts effectively downstream. Additionally, the role involves implementing best practices for prospecting, messaging, personalization, and outreach cadence, as well as partnering with Marketing, Sales Operations, and Sales leadership to refine ideal customer profiles, territory strategy, and account prioritization.
Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in sales development, business development, or outbound sales, with a minimum of 1 year in a leadership or coaching capacity. A proven track record of managing and developing high-performing BDR or sales teams that consistently meet or exceed pipeline targets is required. Applicants should possess a deep understanding of outbound prospecting methods, including cold calling, email sequencing, social selling, and multi-channel outreach. Experience in coaching sellers on messaging, objection handling, qualification, and activity management is essential. A data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze metrics, identify trends, and use insights to inform decisions is also necessary.
