Manager, Trading & Asset Optimization
Aypa Power is seeking a Manager of Trading and Asset Optimization to join its Asset Management Team in Austin, Texas. This role focuses on managing a storage portfolio within a fast-paced industry, contributing to the company's mission of decarbonizing the grid and enhancing energy market efficiency.
The Manager will be responsible for identifying and executing opportunities to improve market efficiencies and capture positive spreads in physical and financial power markets. Key duties include developing daily reports to optimize storage assets, enhancing market intelligence for battery storage bidding strategies, managing market congestion analysis, and collaborating with operations teams to implement strategies for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Additional responsibilities involve generating bid/offer curves, creating strategies that incorporate hedging capabilities, monitoring BESS performance, and providing solutions to operational challenges.
Candidates should possess a B.S. in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with an MBA considered a plus. A minimum of 5 years of experience in front office asset management, market analysis, or energy derivatives trading is required. Prior exposure to battery storage facilities and operations is essential. The role demands excellent written and verbal communication skills, a detail-oriented and analytical mindset, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Thorough knowledge of the ERCOT market is necessary, with CAISO experience considered advantageous. The position also requires participation in weekend and off-hour on-call rotations.
