Mechanical Engineer II
Axon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our team in Sterling, Virginia. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing next-generation counter-unmanned aerial systems (cUAS) technology, contributing to our mission of protecting life through innovative solutions. You will collaborate closely with product managers, electrical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing teams to design and deliver advanced hardware systems.
As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will drive product development from concept through manufacturing, ensuring designs meet durability and reliability standards. Your responsibilities will include leading the ideation of new product architectures, constructing and analyzing high-fidelity prototypes, and performing detailed mechanical analyses such as finite element analysis (FEA) and tolerance assessments. You will also document design specifications, production processes, and compliance requirements rigorously.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, along with proven experience in mechanical design and system integration, preferably in industries involving advanced hardware systems. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) for 3D modeling and detailed engineering drawings is essential. Hands-on experience with prototyping tools and fabrication equipment, as well as knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers, is highly desirable. A strong understanding of engineering principles, including heat transfer, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and shock/vibration, is required.
