KoBold Metals is seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to join their Advanced Technology Group in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role focuses on designing, developing, and deploying next-generation hardware technologies to enhance the collection and interpretation of exploration data. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, and geoscientists to create innovative solutions that drive KoBold's mineral exploration efforts.

The Mechatronics Engineer will lead the full technical lifecycle of critical hardware systems, from concept and prototyping through validation, automation, manufacturing, and field deployment. Responsibilities include developing automated sensing and imaging systems, defining system architectures, integrating new data streams into proprietary data systems, and ensuring the generated data meets user needs and field requirements. Additionally, the role involves building partnerships with service providers and vendors to develop hardware solutions tailored to exploration needs.

Candidates should have a proven track record in developing and deploying complex automated scientific equipment, with experience in remote site deployments, including commissioning, validation, training, and monitoring. The role requires the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, including technical leadership, project management, and hands-on engineering. Strong communication skills are essential for collaboration in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Technical expertise should encompass end-to-end product development, physical measurement and data analysis systems, automation, systems integration, data acquisition, mechanical engineering, CAD, prototyping, and vendor management.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $190,000, along with company equity. The role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the expectation of working out of the Berkeley, CA office as needed. Travel requirements include domestic and international trips, approximately 20-30% of the time, with visits to remote field sites and work trips potentially extending to over three weeks.
