Member of Technical Staff - Infrastructure Reliability
The Member of Technical Staff - Infrastructure Reliability role at xAI involves ensuring the continuous operation and reliability of large-scale distributed infrastructure, including both on-premises and cloud-based systems. This position is integral to xAI's mission of developing AI systems that accurately understand the universe and assist humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Key responsibilities include defining and executing technical strategies for infrastructure reliability and scalability, building and maintaining automation, observability, and control systems for multi-datacenter, hybrid cloud/on-premises environments, leading incident response and root cause analysis efforts, and designing and implementing high-leverage systems software in Python and Rust. The role also involves pushing the state of the art in large-scale GPU cluster operations and AI workload reliability.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in shipping production software and/or operating distributed infrastructure at scale. Expert-level knowledge of Linux systems, TCP/IP networking, and systems programming is required. Strong coding skills with proven production experience in Rust (strongly preferred) and at least one of Python, Go, or C++ are essential. Deep experience with large-scale distributed systems in on-premises and cloud environments, hands-on expertise with container orchestration tools, and a solid understanding of common failure modes in distributed systems are also necessary. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience is required.
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $180,000 to $400,000 annually.
