Member of Technical Staff - RL Infrastructure
xAI is seeking experienced software engineers to join our team as Members of Technical Staff in Reinforcement Learning (RL) Infrastructure. Our mission is to create AI systems that accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. We operate with a flat organizational structure, emphasizing hands-on contributions and engineering excellence.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining frameworks for agent, data, and model evaluation tasks. Your work will involve building environments for AI agents, automating common workflows, and improving alerts, metrics, and error handling in large-scale RL jobs. Additionally, you will refactor existing frameworks for better modularity and design operational procedures and coding standards to streamline the transition from small-scale experimentation to large-scale RL training.
The ideal candidate will have experience building and maintaining frameworks used by multiple engineers, developing high-performance sandboxes, virtual machines, and simulations, and creating full-stack applications for automating workflows and data visualization. Proficiency in rapid iteration from research to production cycles, as well as expertise in test automation and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), is essential.
