Network Engineer - Edge
The Network Engineer - Edge role at xAI involves architecting, developing, and maintaining the company's peering and transit infrastructure, including routing policies, eDNS, cloud connectivity, CGNAT, and load balancer fleets. This position is crucial for supporting xAI's AI platforms, such as Grok and X, which rely on robust on-premise infrastructure to deliver high-speed and efficient services. The successful candidate will join a small, highly motivated team focused on engineering excellence and will be expected to contribute directly to the company's mission.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing peering and transit infrastructure, managing DNS systems, overseeing cloud VPCs and connected network hardware, and diagnosing complex TCP/IP issues. The role also emphasizes leveraging Python scripting to automate repetitive engineering tasks and proactively mitigate customer impacts. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to enhance infrastructure efficiency and support xAI's AI platforms.
The ideal candidate will have over seven years of experience with edge network hardware, including load balancers, CGNAT, routers, and switches, as well as routing experience in backbones, peering, and transit areas with expertise in traffic engineering. Proficiency in Python scripting for automating deployments and break/fix tasks is required, along with experience managing DNS infrastructure and troubleshooting cloud VPCs and connected network hardware. A proven ability to troubleshoot complex TCP/IP issues is also essential.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $440,000 USD.
