Payroll Manager
The Payroll Manager at PLS is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of pay for approximately 3,500 employees across multiple states. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a deep understanding of payroll systems and labor laws. The Payroll Manager will collaborate with internal partners and external vendors to standardize processes, drive efficiency, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key responsibilities include managing the full-cycle payroll process on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, preparing payroll reports and variance analyses, and ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws and tax regulations. The Payroll Manager will establish and implement auditing and quality control processes, manage payroll tax filings and year-end processes, and troubleshoot payroll and timekeeping system issues. Additionally, this role involves providing guidance and training to the Payroll Team, handling complex payroll issues, leading internal and external payroll audits, and collaborating with the Accounting department on payroll-related reconciliations and audits.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, with a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll operations across multiple states and at least 5 years of experience managing and motivating direct reports and teams are required. Expertise in federal, state, and local payroll and tax regulations is essential. Experience with UKG (formerly UltiPro) and Workforce Management (formerly Kronos) is preferred, along with strong project management skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
