The Principal Software Architect at Graphcore will define and drive the architectural vision of the software stack for the Graphcore ML accelerator. This role involves shaping the architecture of the software ecosystem and maintaining a deep understanding of the product’s hardware and software components, their interfaces, and interactions. The architect will work within the software architecture team, which is responsible for defining, maintaining, and communicating the overarching architecture of the software stack, from firmware to machine learning frameworks.

Key responsibilities include defining and documenting the software architecture, ensuring a coherent end-to-end architecture across different software domains, and clearly communicating the software architecture to engineering teams. The role also involves continuously maintaining the software architecture as the product evolves, staying informed about trends and developments in the machine learning/software ecosystem, and assessing the architectural impact of new technologies. Additionally, the architect will prototype and validate architectural concepts through proof-of-concept implementations and work closely with hardware and silicon architects to ensure the software stack meets product requirements.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following technologies: firmware, drivers, machine learning frameworks (such as PyTorch and Triton), collectives, high-performance computing, tooling, C and C++, and CPU architectures. Technical expertise in the machine learning accelerator software space is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a pragmatic approach to decision-making, being very aware of trade-offs and implications. Demonstrable experience in a previous architecture role is desirable.
