Privacy/AI Counsel - 12 month contract

SmartRecruiters is seeking a Privacy/AI Counsel for a 12-month contract to join our legal team. As a leading AI-powered hiring platform, we serve over 4,000 companies, including Amazon, Visa, and McDonald's. In 2025, we joined SAP, enhancing our capabilities in transforming global hiring processes.

In this role, you will act as a strategic legal advisor on AI, privacy, and security matters, translating complex legal developments into actionable guidance for both legal and technical leadership. You will drive cross-entity collaboration to harmonize data protection standards post-acquisition, develop internal and external-facing privacy and AI collateral to empower the Sales organization, and provide daily support to the Product Team on topics such as data retention, international data transfers, and privacy in AI systems. Additionally, you will oversee the management of Data Subject Rights, cookie consent across web and cloud applications, and the maintenance of the Register of Processing Activities.

The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of in-house experience in AI, data security, data privacy, data protection, and governance, preferably in a SaaS environment. In-depth knowledge of GDPR, European data protection laws, and EU Directives is essential. A deep understanding of the evolving AI landscape, including the EU AI Act, and the ability to navigate the intersection of global privacy laws and AI-driven product development are required. Familiarity with data privacy legislation in other countries outside of the EU, such as US States, Canada, China, and Australia, is also important.
