Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Formlabs is seeking a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of manufacturing engineering professionals at our global headquarters in Somerville, MA. This role is pivotal in supporting our global manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams, focusing on scaling manufacturing capacity and transitioning new hardware products into steady-state production. Unlike traditional shop floor roles, this position emphasizes strategic oversight and collaboration across various departments to drive innovation in 3D printing technology.
The successful candidate will be responsible for sustaining manufacturing lines at our contract manufacturers, managing the transition into production, and supporting ongoing operations. Key duties include characterizing process and product failures, conducting root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions, and mistake-proofing at suppliers and contract manufacturers. Additionally, the role involves owning manufacturing processes such as assembly, printer calibration, and verification testing, ensuring industry-leading reliability, quality, and yield.
Applicants should possess a B.S. degree in engineering—mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace, industrial, or a related field—with at least 3 years of experience in engineering management or team leadership. A minimum of 5 years of technical experience in manufacturing engineering roles for complex electro-mechanical product industrialization at scale is required. Proficiency in statistical analysis methods, structured problem-solving techniques, and process control is essential. Candidates must be willing to work onsite in a fast-paced environment and coordinate with colleagues across different time zones, with occasional travel to vendors and production facilities, primarily in China, approximately 10-20% of the time.
Formlabs offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a robust equity program through RSUs, comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision), 401K matching with access to financial advisors, generous paid parental leave (up to 16 weeks), tenure-based paid sabbatical leave (up to 6 weeks), and a flexible out-of-office plan. Additional perks include ample on-site parking, pre-tax commuter benefits, healthy on-site lunches, snacks, beverages, and treats, regular sponsored professional development opportunities, and unlimited 3D prints.
At Formlabs, we foster a culture of hands-on builders, engineers, and innovators dedicated to reinventing how the world makes physical things. Joining our team means contributing to a dynamic environment that values collaboration, continuous learning, and the opportunity to shape the future of fabrication.
