Senior SLS Materials Scientist
Formlabs is seeking a Senior SLS Materials Scientist to join our Materials Engineering team in Somerville, MA. In this role, you will lead the development of world-class Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) materials, driving projects from initial laboratory research through validation and commercialization. As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to advancing our 3D printing technology, which empowers over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide to innovate and create.
Your primary responsibilities will include conducting research to push the boundaries of SLS material performance, transforming discoveries into next-generation solutions. You will collaborate closely with product, hardware, and software teams to iterate and enhance material performance based on customer feedback. Additionally, you will develop methodologies to evaluate material formulations in coordination with SLS print systems, balancing material chemistry, thermal dynamics, and printing parameters.
The ideal candidate will have experience bringing new materials to market from ideation to production, with a solid understanding of materials science and polymer product development. Hands-on experience in thermoplastic engineering is essential. A passion for testing and troubleshooting, coupled with the ability to design and conduct rigorous experiments to optimize materials, is crucial. Candidates should be capable of working autonomously, taking initiative to learn new skills, and valuing good documentation practices. A B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field is required.
